Minnesotans are paying more and getting less. Health insurance companies increase our premiums. They refuse to pay out claims, pocketing the money for themselves. Their deductibles crush families. Our prescription costs are higher than anywhere else in the world. Hospitals and clinics are closing or cutting services. Some of us delay care because we can’t afford it. Others have been priced out altogether.
People’s coverage is being taken. The federal budget bill passed in 2025 by GOP leadership makes roughly $1 trillion in cuts to healthcare nationally, giving that money to the wealthiest people and corporations. In MN, 250,000 people are expected to have their healthcare coverage taken between 2027 and 2030. Black Minnesotans, rural communities, and others already facing barriers to care and quality will be hit especially hard.
When hundreds of thousands of our neighbors have their coverage taken, we will all pay the price. Hospitals absorb more uncompensated care. Rural providers are pushed closer to the brink. Families wait longer for care. Costs get shifted onto everybody else.
This is not inevitable. It is a choice. While our healthcare is being cut, corporations and the wealthiest Americans received massive tax benefits. And while families struggle to afford a doctor's visit, corporations inside our healthcare system continue generating billions of dollars.
Elected Leadership needs to make a choice NOW. Republicans in Congress voted for the Big Bad Bill that created these devastating healthcare cuts. But Democrats and other elected officials can allow those consequences to continue if they fail to fight them and build something better.
This campaign is bigger than one political party. Every candidate for office in Minnesota, at every level of government, will be asked to sign the Our Lives, Not Their Profits Pledge. We want to know:
- Will you fight for high quality, affordable healthcare for every Minnesotan?
- Will you fight to get our money back?
- Will you stop corporations from profiting from our pain?
This fight is already here. Across Minnesota, communities are organizing around the places where corporate profit takes away our healthcare. We are taking on corporate giants like MN-based UnitedHealth Group, which generates nearly half a trillion dollars in annual revenue while Minnesotans struggle to afford the care they need.
Minnesotans across the state have already started to take action together. This is a multi-year fight. We will organize. We will vote. We will take action. And we will make every elected official choose.
